Is it Possible? Free, legal Music Downloads may be here!

Apparently, the at least three of the Big Four music distribution companies –EMI, Universal Music, and Warner Music– have given their blessing to a new venture called Qtrax.
The Beta download will apparently be available tonight at midnight Eastern Standard (US) Time, which is GMT -5 Hours to the rest of the world. Boasting an apparent 25 million song catalog, the service will be supported by advertising sales positioned within the service’s music player.
There are downsides. The files will come encumbered with Microsoft’s WMV DRM. Qtrax claims it’s tracks will be iPod compatible, but there’s a whole universe of alternative devices out there, and while I’d bet these tunes will play just fine on the Zune, will they do OK on an iRiver? a SanDisk? Time will tell.
But still: A day I thought would never come has, apparently, arrived. If it’s all it’s cracked up to be, Big Music deserves a round of applause for finally getting on-board with the internet.
