TMZ: Disgusting, Depraved, and Demeaning

Well, I suppose everyone’s heard by now about Heath Ledger’s unfortunate demise. And in case you haven’t, TMZ is there with some distinctively rotten coverage.
Heath was in Mary Kate’s apartment. Heath was not in Mary Kate’s Apartment. Heath died of an overdose. Heath’s cause of death was accidental. They’re just stepping and sliding in it. One could hope that maybe this event does something to smother this pathetic fixation America has with celebrities and their foibles and falls. Somehow, though, I doubt it.

I wretch every time I surf by TMZ on tv. It is such unhealthy lowness, and such a sad comment on the condition of the psyche of the public. The act of taking pleasure in the objectification of celebrities is beyond perverse. And I am so tired of the argument that they ask for it by being public in their work. There really needs to be more substantial boundaries that allow celebrities to have more control over when they’re public, and when they get to be private.
